Coming to prominence during the shoegaze movements of the 1980s, Jesus and Mary Chain's string of successful albums helped to popularize the genre, with singles such as "Sometimes Always" bringing their sound to a wider audience. The Psychedelic Furs meanwhile were founded in London and first came to the notice of mainstream American audiences in 1986 when director John Hughes used their their song "Pretty in Pink" in his movie of the same name, with their accompanying album Talk, Talk, Talk becoming their breakthrough.
